What You Should Know About Removing a Tree Close to Your House

Posted on: 31 July 2018

People have trees removed for lots of different reasons, but they normally boil down to the tree either being hazardous or inconvenient. This could be because the tree is damaged, because it's growing in a dangerous way, or simply because you want to free up outdoor space for landscaping.

Sometimes a tree is growing too close to your house, and that causes several problems in itself. Branches might be worryingly close to windows and guttering, or the tree could be blocking your views. If you're having a tree removed from near your home, there are a few extra things to bear in mind beforehand.

An inspection is recommended

Before the actual work of removing a tree begins, it's a good idea to have a professional take a look. This is even more important when the tree is growing close to your house because there are so many more things that can go wrong.

By carrying out a proper inspection in advance, your tree removal company can ensure they're prepared to carry out the work safely and efficiently, and they can advise you on any extra issues you might face.

It could take longer

In most cases, removing a tree that's near to a building isn't a simple case of cutting it down and letting it fall. Doing that means far too great a risk of damage to your home.

Instead, the tree will be slowly dismantled, starting by removing branches from the top down, and then cutting the trunk away in segments. This can be time-consuming, so don't expect the tree to be gone immediately and make sure you don't have any plans to use your backyard before the tree has been fully removed.

You might have problems in the future

One of the problems with trees growing close to buildings is that the roots can damage the foundations and cause structural issues. When the tree has been removed, however, you can still experience problems at a later point.

Those roots will still be in the ground and, as they begin to shrink and rot away, the land can subside slightly. Ask your arborist for their opinion on the sort of damage this could do and to suggest a solution. You may also find it useful to consult a surveyor.

It's not something to do yourself

If you've cut down a tree before, you might feel like you can handle it again. It's not advisable to do it yourself when the tree in question is right next to your house, however, because it's a delicate operation that needs experience and expertise.

You might think you'll save money by removing the tree yourself, but the potential for damage means there's a high possibility of it costing you more in the long run.

How Contractors Helped my Commercial Business

Hello, my name is Craig and I own a large commercial business which is located in Brisbane, Australia. When I purchased my current premises, my company was quite small. However, as my sales improved and I began to buy more stock, I suddenly found that I didn't have room to store it or display it in my small shop. I started to look for new premises but the cost of moving would be very high. Thankfully, my friend suggested I build an extension. I contacted a team of contractors. They constructed a great extension and my business is now doing really well.
